Have a really good time in Breckenridge except for the constant headache (high altitude sickness) cured only with continuously taking Tylenol or Advil. God had mercy on me. I suppose sufficient water intake and high carbohydrate diet helped. Got to meet with a few friends: Cindy (Houston), Thien (St. Paul, MN), Rhodo (Seattle, WA), Long, Hai, Tan, Nguyen, Huyen, Ngoc (San Francisco), Chau (Washington DC) and seeing some old friends again: Duy (Washington DC), Thuy (Houston/Chicago), Nguyet (Houston).

Still trailing by 1137 units.

I did not know that using a manual KVM switch, if you going up to 1600x1200 with 32 bit color, loss of signal strength will cause shadows. Already put in an order for automatic KVM switch and will ship back the manual switch and cables. The automatic switch will have cables included.

The changes in the new election laws are quite good, especially the provisional ballots nation-wide.

Talked to Marty and she said I should be getting soon the letter from county party indicating how many delegates I can send to the state convention in San Antonio this June 3-5.

Including 20 minutes warm up and cool down, I ran 2.68 miles in 45 minutes and burned 308 calories.

Trailing by 1309 units.

The trip to Austin meeting with the youth group down there was good. They will have about 5-6 people show up at camp but only on Friday night. Heard a good message from MS Tu about great friendships in the Bible: Jonathan and David (I Samuel 18:1, 3-4), David's mighty men (I Chronicles 11:17-19), friends of the paralyzed guy (Mark 2:2-5), Jeremiah and Baruch (Jeremiah 36:32), Philip and Nathaniel (John 1:45-46), Paul and John Mark (Acts 13:13), Perter and his friends (Acts 12:5).

The gods of the godless nations are mere trinkets,
made for quick sale in the markets:
Chiseled mouths that can't talk,
painted eyes that can't see,
Carved ears that can't hear--
dead wood! cold metal!
Those who make and trust them
become like them.

Psalm 135:15-18 MSG

Just one look at how much they take away from my bonus payout, I want more tax cut. I want to do away with federal income tax altogether. Thirty some percent tax is too much. I want flat rate sale tax.

Works done by unregenerate men, although for the matter of them they may be things which God commands; and of good use both to themselves and others: yet, because they proceed not from an heart purified by faith; nor are done in a right manner, according to the Word; nor to a right end, the glory of God, they are therefore sinful and cannot please God, or make a man meet to receive grace from God: and yet, their neglect of them is more sinful and displeasing unto God.

Westminster Confession of Faith (1646 AD) chapter 16: Of Good Works.

Dropped off the watch for UPS shipping return to overstock.com. The altimeter on that watch was no good.

Waiting for my new barebone system from unitedmicro.com.

It must have been somekind of food poisoning because I was up at 2:30 this morning and did not go back to sleep until 3:30. Thank God I took some medicine and was able to sleep to morning and had no problem the whole day.

We had a good birthday party for Hao & Kiet. Great food, a lot of fun.

Got stop on the way home on 161 in Las Colinas because I was doing 80mph in a 60mph zone but the officer was really nice. He asked if I knew why I was stop, to see my driver license and insurance, checked out my registration, whether I still live in Carrollton. Then he told me to slow down and let me go without a citation. Thank God.

I am trailing the rank #1 guy by 1468 units on Setiathome still.

Finally it's snowing, the first time this winter. It started last night and still going outside, probably about 2 inches already.

Wednesday, February 11, 2004

I got a bonus and a raise, for which I am grateful to God.

Left Jennifer a message but she hasn't called me back. Talked to Lynn again and she found one guy who is fluent in Spanish and commits to work the whole day on March 9th, which is great.

Metrocrest had a candidate forum today. All candidates in the Republican primary were invited but only a handful showed up. We had three candidates running for Dallas county sheriff, two running for the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.

John Cornyn will be speaking at the Dallas county Lincoln dinner and Kay Bailey Hutchison will be speaking at the Denton county one on the same night.

Got to find a Spanish speaking Republican for the March 9th primary. Will call Jim and/or Margaret to see and then call Lynn back.

Lessening the effects of high altitude sickness (caused by reduced concentration of oxygen in the air) with high carbohydrate nutrition, especially in fluid component, increased intake of vitamin E and careful increased intake of iron (excessive iron intake might enhance a simultaneous free radical production): http://www.wms.org/education/Nutrition%20at%20Altitude%5B1%5D..htm

I grasp and cling to whatever you tell me;
GOD, don't let me down!
I'll run the course you lay out for me
if you'll just show me how.

Today is my first time working out at Nortel Aralia. Saw Jesse, it's been a very long while since I last saw him.

I have been looking for a watch that also has an altimeter and finally found one that I like: a Swiss Army StarTech 3000 Chronograph Watch. The cheapest I found on Overstock.com for $149 and free shipping with no sale tax. I would love the Casio with built in GPS receiver if they could fix it so that the receiver is not so bulky and protruding too far out like they currently have.

Our God is in heaven
doing whatever he wants to do.
Their gods are metal and wood,
handmade in a basement shop:
Carved mouths that can't talk,
painted eyes that can't see,
Tin ears that can't hear,
molded noses that can't smell,
Hands that can't grasp, feet that can't walk or run,
throats that never utter a sound.
Those who make them have become just like them,
have become just like the gods they trust.

The ticket for my ski trip is booked with Delta: $197 non-stop round trip DFW-DEN, not too bad of a deal.

I am proud of myself and thankful for God's grace: got a lot of things move forward, VAY camp in March initial task assignment is sent out, talked to Giap, called to MS Thach, reminded my boss about my vacation the last half of week 9, finish the telnet interface for Patch Automation, started working on the Detailed Design document ....

Two more pints of blood and I would have donated 2 gallons.

Tuesday, February 03, 2004

I knew I was way overdue for a donation so I just spontaneously dropped in at the Carter Bloodcare in Addison to have a pint taken out of me. Not sure how many pints more before I reach my 2-gallon mark because the database server for Carter Bloodcare seemed to be down:

I managed to gain the second place, in results received ranking, this week among those who registered on SETIATHOME on the same date with me, 2002 November 17, all over the world and trailing the #1 guy by 2085 units. I've been keeping track of the difference between me and the #1 and #2 guys by posting them here.

I got back to running because my feet do not hurt anymore. Got a new pair of running shoes and I supposed that helps. I need to get in better shape and ready for my ski trip this year at the end of this month.

For he's always at hand to take the side of the needy, to rescue a life from the unjust judge.
Psalm 109:31 MSG

We had a wonderful SuperBowl party at Son and Thuy's place. All my buddies at church rooted for the underdog, the Carolina Panthers but somehow, I went for the New England Patriots. It was really a good game, all the way to the end and also good food. I was a little worry for the Patriots when the Panthers took the lead in the fourth quarter, 22 to 21. I am also very glad and grateful to God for a great game, with no security problem whatsoever. Thanks to our law enforment officers.
