I was born the first child in the family of two children on June 13, 1976 in Saigon City, Vietnam. It's just barely one year after the war between North and South Vietnam ended in April 30, 1975. My only brother was born June 13, 1978, exactly two years later. Both of us were raised up in the love of our parents, who would sacrifice everything they have to give us the best opportunities we could have in everything, especially in our education. Until 17 years later, we resettled in Dallas, Texas. Arrived in Dallas 20:00 CST at night on October 7, 1993, we just went straight to bed after more than 26 hours on the plane. Woke up the next morning, I and my dad tried to find the post office because I promised my friends I would write them as soon as I got to the U.S. Next, we hunted down an English class since they speak English in America. Our English teacher, Linda McAuliffe, is a Christian. It's a Thursday. Linda came over to our apartment after the English class with a bunch of needy things as shampoo, towels, tooth paste ... We all didn't understand whatever she was saying except my mom. We are getting along pretty well here is greatly the benefit of my mom speaking English fluently.
Saturday, Dennis, Linda's husband came over and asked my mom if I and my brother could come to their Youth group meeting at church. We came, meeting a bunch of Vietnamese Christians at church because Dennis and Linda were serving the Lord with the Vietnamese Mission there. We then kept coming every Saturday as well as the whole family going to church every Sunday. Dennis and Linda gave us the ride every single time. On the night of November 20, 1993, a brother (Nguyen, Ba Phuc) at church came to our house with a Vietnamese pastor (To, Van Quang) and witnessed to our family. The whole family came to Christ that night. It's still clear in my mind as we were kneeling and praying that night. I remembered the date so distinctively because it's the Vietnamese Teacher's day. We were baptized by our American pastor at church on December 5, 1993. My life has changed from then on.
Not in very dramatic way but one step at a time, the Lord has brought me to the knowledge of His Son Jesus Christ and what He has done on Calvary. I am convinced that:
as the Apostle Paul was (Romans 8:38-39). Christ's unconditional love manifested through His body, the church, especially through Dennis and Linda, helps me continually to draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that I may receive mercy and may find grace in time of need (Hebrews 4:16). He reveals to me who I am. The pride of life is my weakest point in the three things: good for food, delight to the eyes, desirable to make one wise (Genesis 3:6) / the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life (I John 2:16), that caused the fall of man. Also, I have gotten to really rely on the Spirit to keep my tongue (the very world of iniquity - James 3:6) under self-control because the tongue has the power of life and death. However, that is not the wonderful character of God just yet. He is not only showing me my weakness, He is giving me the strength, the courage and the hope to overcome, to be victorious in Christ.
God is everything to me and everything that I will ever want. He created me for no necessary reason other than the love He has for me, the desire for me to fellowship with Him. But then I was outcasted because of the sin in me, which cannot allow me to stand the holiness of God. Guess what, He's reached out again, taken me in, given me hope, granted me eternal life. What else can Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, do more than what he has done at Calvary, shedding His innocent blood on the Cross for our sins, with His arms stretched out wide? Nothing!     Jesus is the Anointed One, the Christ, the Savior, the Lamb of God, the Alpha and Omega, the Prince of Peace, the King of kings, the Lord of lords, the Blessed Redeemer, the loving Great Shepherd, the Deliverer, the Counselor, the New Covenant, the Mediator, the Messiah, the Master, the Light, the Love, the Life, the Great Teacher, the Word, the Rock of Ages, the Great Healer, the Immanuel, the Almighty God, the Great Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek, the Lion of Judah, the Son of David, King of Glory, the Resurrection, the Immortal ... To me, if I had to describe Him with one name: The faithful ONE.
