Yesterday, I had lunch and talked to a friend who was in desert storm over ten years ago and he told me something that I have not heard before: that the Kurds never attacked a civilian target during the two years he was over there in Turkey, not once. So they shouldn't be labeled terrorists.

It's crawling yesterday with Comcast, must have been hit with that new virus. Today, it is somewhat back to normal: downlink 2299.67Kbps and uplink of 225Kbps.

When I logged on to my brokerage account today, I noticed that GE started paying out a bigger dividend starting last quarter of 2003 or first quarter of 2004, don't know which but it's nice of them.

The holidays are behind us but we have the 10-year anniversary celebration for our church coming up so we have to practice singing some more songs.

GOD is sheer mercy and grace;
not easily angered, he's rich in love.
He doesn't endlessly nag and scold,
nor hold grudges forever.

Psalm 103:8-9

Missed the VPS Vietnamese New Year party because I had to work late today, and have to come in again tomorrow. It's not my code that breaks but I am helping out with integration testing. We have to go DT before Monday and I do NOT want to work Sunday, the Lord's day.

Yesterday, I was wondering why the people at my orthodontist's office didn't call and remind me about the appointment I have today. Somehow in my mind I was convinced that I had an appointment at 7:00 this morning. I woke up at 6:00, called their office around 6:30 but got the answering machine. I went anyway, dare not to be late or break the appointment. Nobody was there when I showed up there at 7:00. The people don't get there until 8:00. I then realized it could be next Tuesday, because that's when it's really 6 weeks after they put my braces on. I called them later in the morning, confirmed and put it in my Outlook. I try not to make the same mistake twice.

Got both the survey for the retreat last weekend and the registration form for camp in March sent out.

Being the treasurer, I need to worry about all the receipts for the people at church so they can do their taxes.

The president's State of the Union address has something for everyone. Security is an issue everyone, Democrat or Republican, cares about. Then the economy, healthcare, education: traditionally the Democrat's issues. Then there is the Constitutional process for to protect the sanctity of marriage, the activist judges. What is so encouraging is that the president brought up the issue of STDs (sexually transmitted diseases): the only sure way to avoid it is abstinence. Condom cannot prevent some of the viruses' transmission, an issue that Dr. Dobson of Focus on the Family has talked about so many times.

The training by MS Thach for VAY Southwest went really well. Got to know Huong, Nhu, Chris, Long and Son from Houston. Austin didn't come.

14"If you'll hold on to me for dear life," says GOD,
"I'll get you out of any trouble.
I'll give you the best of care
if you'll only get to know and trust me.

Psalm 91:14 MSG

The president will deliver his state of the union address next Tuesday, January 20th, 2004 before joint session of Congress. Hope I will be able to get home in time to watch.

Comcast sent me an email telling me that they double the cable speed. I went and measured average value. Got downlink of 2477Kbps and uplink of 289Kbps. So they increased only the downlink a few hundred Kbps and nothing for the uplink.

Got an email from another very closed friend of mine in Vietnam. He just came back from his honeymoon. I am now the only one among the group of 4 guy buddies who is not married. I guess they found their missing rib faster than I do. God will bring mine to me in due time.

The first meeting for our youth group in 2004 went well last night. We got the pingpong table and assembled it. We had fun with it today after service.

The first of Lunar New Year is not until January 22nd but today the Vietnamese Community of Greater Dallas already hold a festival celebrating it. VPAC will have a voter registration drive and as its Vice Chairman, I'll be there from 9:00 to 3:00 to help. Part of our VPAC mission is to make sure that Americans of Vietnamese descent make an informed vote in every election.

Let's hope the Supreme Court will not issue a stay on the Congressional redistricting map approved by both the Justice Department and the Federal district court, or better yet swiftly issue a ruling to affirm the lower court's decision.

First day back at work, it wasn't too bad. Enjoy this week because school is starting again next Monday, January 12th.

Tonight will be record low of the season, it's 26F right now.

So far EQY appears to be a good buy. I am learning to love these REITs.

Dollar Cost Average (DCA) investment is mentioned as a good investment strategy, regardless of bear or bull market, in a book by Suze Orman that I am listening to, got me thinking maybe it's time to start the Employee Stock Purchase Program offer by my company again.

Got deputized as a deputy registrar for Collin county today.

Went to Lexie's wedding last night. The food was actually good but after three Saturday in a row eating more or less the same menu, it didn't exactly help my appetite.

We were going to play tennis after church today but the temperature dropped from 68F to 48F and the wind picked up strongly so we all went home after church.
