For this reason I say to you, do not be anxious
for your life, as to what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor for your
body, as to what you shall put on. Is not life more than
food, and the body than clothing? Look at the birds
of the air, that they do not sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns,
and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth
much more than they? And which of you by being anxious can add
a single cubit to his life's span? And why are you anxious about clothing?
Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin,
yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory did not
clothe himself like one of these. But if God so arrays the grass of the field,
which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much
more do so for you, O men of little faith? Do not be anxious then, saying,
"what shall we eat?" or "What shall we drink" or "With what shall we clothe
ourselves?" For all these things the Gentiles eagerly seek; for your heavenly
Father knows that you need all these things. But
seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be
added to you |
With this oath, I became an American in the summer of 2001: |
"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God." |

Like to play golf, tennis, table-tennis, bowling and most of all
is swimming. I have always like to jog. For a while in my high school years in Vietnam, I was serious about running, doing 5K every day. After I moved to Dallas, things slacked until I was found with high cholesterol, had to take up jogging again. However, "not having time" often found its way to be an excuse for not exercising. Recently after reading the article about our president, George W. Bush in the Runner magazine (October 2002 issue), in which he said if the president of the USA can make time to run for more than an hour a day then anyone can. That excuse is out the window. So, I have been doing a minimum of 4 miles every other day since reading that article. |
Here is my record: | |
1 mile | 08:35 |
2 mile | 20:39 |
3 mile | 32:07 |
set on February 03rd, 2003. |
To put things in perspective: President George W. Bush, a 56 year-old guy did 3 miles in 20:29. Air Force ROTC Physical Fitness Exam requires 1.5 miles in less than 12:30 FBI Agent Physical Fitness Exercises require 2 miles in between 14:55 and 15:23 minimum. |
Due to the need for non-impact cardiovascular workout, I now settle with lap-swimming and stationary biking instead. |
On stationary bike: | |
13.07 mile | 36:19 |
set on August 21st, 2003. |
I have been back on the treadmill once again but the strategy is different. I need cardiovascular workout, especially for my annual ski trip in late January or early February but I am not too crazy about running fast anymore. Nor is the focus how much of a distance I can cover. It's rather staying fit. So here is the balance I found, I am doing 40 minutes everytime, making sure I cover at least 2 miles in no longer than 30 minutes and allow 10 minutes to cool down. I also make sure at least 20 to 30 minutes of strength training everytime I workout. |
